Annual Conference News March 10, 2010 I want to share a word or two about our annual conference coming up in just 2 weeks. We are very excited about this year’s conference as it promises to be extremely exciting. Governor McDonnell will be with us Friday evening, as well Secretary of Public Safety, Marla Decker and Deputy Secretary of Public Safety, John Bukovich. Additionally, we will be joined by members of the General Assembly and we will bestow “Legislator of the Year” awards upon three of them. Saturday afternoon we will have what is becoming two very popular activities. First we will have our annual, “Ask the Colonel” breakout. During this breakout Colonel Flaherty will field questions from the audience. Secondly, our own Retired Master Trooper/Auctioneer Joe Scarce will preside over our auction to benefit the Emergency Relief Fund. We have been able to obtain some very special items this year. For example Hall of Fame Baseball player Cal Ripken has donated 3 very special items including an autographed authentic Orioles game jersey. The Washington Redskins, Dallas Cowboys and Pittsburgh Steelers have also donated autographed items. Finally, our friends at Gander Mountain have donated 5 brand new muzzleloaders and our friends at Sig Sauer have donated a hand gun. These are but a sampling of the many items that have been donated, again to benefit the Emergency Relief Fund. The climax of the conference will occur at our annual banquet on Saturday evening during which time our new 2010-2012 Board of Directors will be introduced and installed.
